Healthcare is a basic right, and not a privilege for the wealthy. That 50 million Americans cannot afford proper healthcare is unimaginable. The remainder of Americans are seeing their costs increase by double digits each year to pay for the 50 million uninsured. Through all of this, insurance companies continue to reap profits through the denial of coverage. The US healthcare system is broken, and must be fixed.
As the healthcare debate continues in Washington, it is clear that this will not be the end of reforms, but merely the beginning. The health of our country our economy depend on this reform. Our companies cannot compete on the world stage against companies from other countries who spend far less on healthcare. Our workers are using more and more of their "disposable" income to pay for healthcare, leaving less to spend in other sectors of the economy. There is more than enough money being spent on healthcare today to pay for care for all of our citizens. We must apply this money in a more productive manner.
